Privacy Policy
Information under Articles 13 and 14 of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Operator based in Germany; this policy is provided in English for our international users.

2. The short version
PolyTake has no user account and no PolyTake server. We do not receive your videos, your audio, your contacts or your location. Everything the app produces stays on the participating iPhones, and clips travel directly from one device to another over the local network.
Because of this, most of the processing described below happens entirely on your own device and never reaches us.
3. General principles
We process personal data only where necessary to operate the PolyTake app and website, to perform a contract, to comply with legal obligations, or where you have given consent.
The service is not directed at children. If you are under 16, please use PolyTake only with permission from a parent or guardian.
4. Purposes and legal bases
Contract and pre-contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): providing the app's features, in particular joining and hosting events, synchronising recordings between devices, transferring clips to the host, and delivering purchased Host functionality.
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): IT security and abuse prevention, stability of the app, and asserting or defending legal claims.
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): access to camera, microphone, local network, nearby device positioning and your photo library. You grant these through the iOS system prompts and can withdraw each of them at any time in the iOS Settings app, with effect for the future.
Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): retention under commercial or tax law and responses to lawful requests from authorities.
5. Categories of personal data
Camera and microphone: video and audio are captured only while you are recording within an event. The recording is written to your device.
Display name: the profile name you choose, or your device name if you have not chosen one, is visible to other participants nearby while events are being discovered and joined.
Local network data: to find other iPhones nearby, the app announces and discovers an event service on the local network. This is limited to what is needed for devices to connect to each other.
Nearby device positioning (optional): on devices with the required hardware, PolyTake can estimate the distance and direction of other participating iPhones through Apple's Nearby Interaction framework, in order to improve the automatic edit. These measurements stay on the devices taking part.
Recordings and sync data: each clip is stored together with technical information about the event, such as an event identifier, the recording device's display name, the recording time and the measured clock offset between devices. This information is needed to align the cameras when the movie is cut.
Photo library (optional): if you choose to save a movie or one of your own clips, PolyTake writes that file to your photo library. PolyTake does not read your photo library.
Purchase data: purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. We receive only the entitlement status needed to unlock hosting. We never see your payment details.
6. Recipients and processors
PolyTake does not use third-party analytics, advertising, attribution or tracking, and it embeds no advertising or social media SDKs.
Apple: the App Store, StoreKit and, where you use it, iCloud and the Photos app are operated by Apple. Purchases, subscription management and refunds run through Apple as the seller. Apple's privacy policy applies to that processing: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Other participants: when you take part in an event, the other devices in that event receive your display name and, once you have recorded, your clip together with its sync information. This is the purpose of the app and happens directly between devices without us being involved.
Website hosting: when you visit this website, your IP address and standard request data are processed by our hosting provider in order to deliver the pages. This is technically necessary and is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
We otherwise share personal data only if you consent, if we are legally required to, or if it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
7. International transfers
The app itself does not transfer your recordings anywhere. Where Apple or our hosting provider process data outside the European Economic Area, appropriate safeguards apply, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses under Article 46 GDPR.
8. Retention
Recordings, movies and event data remain on your device until you delete them in the app or delete the app itself. We do not hold copies and therefore cannot delete them for you.
Clips that a guest transfers to a host remain on the host's device until the host deletes that event. If you would like a host to remove your footage, please ask them directly.
Where we receive personal data through support correspondence, we delete it once your request has been handled, unless longer retention is required by law.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), objection to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21) and withdrawal of consent at any time where processing is based on consent (Art. 7(3)).
To exercise your rights, email support@polytake.app and include enough information for us to identify the matter. Please note that because we hold no account data, we usually cannot connect a request to any stored record.
10. Supervisory authority
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Our establishment is in Germany; the competent authority is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (LDI NRW). Further authorities are listed at bfdi.bund.de.
11. Whether provision of data is mandatory
You are not required to provide personal data. However, the app cannot work without access to the camera, the microphone and the local network. Without those permissions you cannot record or take part in an event.
12. Automated decision-making
We do not use solely automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.
PolyTake does analyse your recordings on your own device to decide which camera to show at any moment. This analysis runs locally, produces only the edited movie and has no legal or similarly significant effect.
13. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices or the law change. The version displayed here with the current "Last updated" date is the active one.
